Description:

Rougui is one of the famous varieties of Wuyi Rock Tea. Also known as Yu Gui, it has been highly esteemed since the Qing Dynasty in China. Besides possessing the unique flavor of rock tea, Rougui is particularly popular for its long-lasting and sharp fragrance. According to experts, Rougui exhibits a distinct cinnamon aroma, which remains even after prolonged steeping. It has a mellow and refreshing taste upon consumption, with a clear and bright golden soup, bright yellow leaf bottoms, tightly rolled curly strips, brownish-green color, and glossy appearance. Over the years, the production of Rougui has been limited, only flourishing in the early 1950s and gaining popularity in the 1980s when it emerged as a rising star among Wuyi teas. Originating from the Matou Peak, it is documented in the "Wuyi Tea Classic" as follows: "Rougui, originally from Matou Peak... with a history of more than 100 years, recognized as a provincial variety by the Fujian Provincial Crop Variety Appraisal Committee in 1985." Similarly, the "Wuyi Rock Tea Compendium" states: "Rougui, originally from Matou Peak, is also found in other areas such as Huiyuankeng." This tea is made from the fresh leaves of Rougui tea trees using the processing method of Wuyi Rock Tea, resulting in an oolong tea with a high fragrance characteristic of Wuyi Rock Tea. Since the early 1940s, Rougui has been one of the ten main varieties planted in Wuyishan tea gardens. Since the 1960s, due to its special quality gradually gaining recognition, its planting area has expanded year by year. It is now cultivated in various areas of Wuyishan, including Shuilian Cave, Niulankeng, Matouyan, Tianxinyan, Huiyuankeng, Yingzuiyan, Liuxiangjian, Zhuku, Wuyuanjian, and Jiulongku, and is actively being bred and promoted. It has become one of the main varieties of Wuyi Rock Tea.
